Emily B. Lyle: Sacred Architecture – In the Traditions of India, China, Judaism and Islam

What does it mean when people create “sacred space” and how do they go about giving it architectural form? This book addresses these questions and others within the context of four cultures where architecture has traditionally carried a great weight of significance – those of India, China, Islam and Judaism. This study contributes to the understanding of aspects of Buddhism and Hinduism, and Judaic and Islamic religion.
